The Transport Board was proud to join organisations, families and individuals across Barbados in supporting the recent “Walk for the Cure”, an important annual event dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer and showing solidarity with those whose lives have been affected by cancer.

The Board’s support went beyond transportation. Several members of staff proudly donned their pink shirts and joined other participants on the walk, demonstrating solidarity with survivors, families and all those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

For some members of the Transport Board family, the event carried an especially personal meaning.

One of the Board’s bus drivers shared his own experience of losing relatives to cancer and spoke about why participating in and supporting initiatives such as the Walk for the Cure is important to him. His reflections are a powerful reminder that behind the pink shirts, the awareness campaigns and the walk itself are real people, families and communities who have experienced the impact of cancer firsthand.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month provides an important opportunity to encourage greater awareness, education and early detection, while recognising survivors, supporting those currently undergoing treatment and remembering those who have lost their lives to the disease.

As an organisation whose work touches communities across Barbados every day, the Transport Board recognises that its role extends beyond providing public transportation. Supporting initiatives that promote health, wellness, community engagement and national awareness is also an important part of serving Barbados.

We commend the organisers, volunteers, sponsors and participants who helped to make the Walk for the Cure a success. We also thank the members of the Transport Board team who represented the organisation and demonstrated, through their participation, the spirit of service and community that remains central to who we are.

Every step taken helps to raise awareness. Every conversation can make a difference. And every show of support reminds those affected by cancer that they do not stand alone.

The Transport Board remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote healthier lives, stronger communities and greater awareness of the issues affecting Barbadian families.
